WHAT IS TrashinG?
Trashing occurs at the end of Oxford students' exams. Their friends wait outside the exam building and throw paint, glitter and other party products on them as well as dousing them in fizzy drinks when they leave the building. Many students will then go to the rivers around Oxford and jump into them to celebrate.
WHAT IS the environmental impact?
There are two main impacts from trashing. Students often leave empty cannisters and bottles on the floor after the trashing, these often do not get recycled, producing a lot of waste. The other impact is the regular introduction of harmful products such as glitter and chemicals into the rivers when students leap into them.
WHAT Are we aiming to do?
We want students to enjoy the end of their exams, without damaging nature! We plan to raise awareness of the impacts of this tradition and provide ways in which students can reduce their effect on the environment.
